The Bible tells about the Jewish hopes that Messiah would appear to free Israel from the Romans and the Roman influence in the Temple. The Jews were looking for a man who would be both priest and king. It appears that is what many Christians want as well. Mike Huckabee is an ordained Baptist minister, so he is already a priest but not yet a king. If he gets elected President of the United States he will be both priest and king. There is a danger in that combination.
The Priest/King will have a dedication to do what he considers to be right and proper. There will be few shades of gray from his perspective. The problem is that there appears to be many shades of gray in Washington. The new Priest/King would have to deal with people he dislikes, who do not have exactly the same values that he does. It is difficult for a Priest/King to compromise or build a concensus, because there is no room for compromise in his belief system. After all, he is Priest/King.
There are some personality clues that I have noticed about Mike Huckabee. The latest is his lack of good sense while hunting. An experienced hunter does not aim his gun in the direction of the people with him, but Mike Huckabee did just that and shot over the heads of reporters. Even though no one was injured it was an unacceptable risk. It showed a lack of concentration. He wasn't mutli-tasking very well.
Huckabee played the "devil card" when he made the remark about Mormon's believing that Jesus and Satan were brothers. Cheap Shot. However, it showed the mind set of the would be Priest/ King. Words reveal what is in the heart. Huckabee showed a particular lacking in the understanding of others. He knows that Romney's religion would not play a part if Romney were president. However, the same cannot be said about the religion of the Priest/King.
Then there was the family portrait showing a trim Mike Huckabee and his obese family members. When Mike went on a diet, his family didn't go on the diet with him. He lost the weight and his family did not. In once sense he left them behind or perhaps they just couldn't keep up. Perhaps he didn't try to encourage them. What kind of leader is Mike Huckabee? What would this kind of leadership do to a nation?
Do we need a Priest/King? What we really need is a good CEO.
